A diary of Shaker High School's 2005-2006 basketball season, a retelling of Shaker's fabled 1979-1980 season, and general commentary on high school hoops, updated daily...

"I like sitting in the back row. I found that sitting against the wall is just easier on your back." -Dean Smith, on the comfort of the H-gym bleachers

Today (12/18) in 1979

Today (12/18) in 1979: Shaker traveled to Bethlehem for their 3rd game of the year. It was 62-38 when Shaker's starters exited the game for good at the end of the third quarter, and the reserves won the 4th 16-15 for a 88-53 final score.Shaker put 10 players in the scoring column, including 3 in double figures - Perkins, Tuecke, and point guard Chuck Meehan. Here's the TU banner headline:

Ho-hum. Just another 35 point win. Perkins had one of his best games ever, going 15 for 16 from the field and making both of his free throw attempts, for 32 points total. I don't know what is more amazing - that he was 15 of 16 from the field or that he only took two foul shots all game!

The win improved Shaker to 3-0, putting them in a tie with Mohonason for first place in the Suburban Council.

Here is the partial box score:

Shaker (93) - Perkins 15 2 32; Barker 2 0 4; Cain 3 2 8; Tueke 5 0 10; Meehan 6 0 12; Brundige 3 0 6; Mitchell 1 0 2; LaLiberte 3 1 7; Rowe 2 0 4; Howard 2 0 4. Totals 41 6 88.
